Q: Why did you decide to undertake ACICIS’ Business Professional Practicum?
I decided to participate in the ACICIS Practicum to gain professional, social and cultural knowledge about Indonesia. I wanted to expand my horizons and gain professional experience in a country other than Australia. I believe it is extremely important to embrace other countries and their culture for many beneficial reasons. ACICIS provided an awesome platform to make new connections and relationships with people in both Indonesia and Australia. I chose to undertake the practicum program because I knew that doing an overseas program, especially in Indonesia will set me apart from all the other upcoming graduates.
Q: How will the Business Professional Practicum benefit or influence your future career?
The Business Professional Practicum gave me a new and developed professional identity that I will continue strengthening throughout my future. It positively benefitted my career aspects as it opened up countless possibilities and pathways that I can now take.
Q: Which organisation did you intern with? What were your responsibilities?
I interned at Hill & Associates, a company that is involved in security risk consultations and management. My roles and responsibilities during my time there were to research, analyse and construct both detailed and brief reports that addressed security issues throughout South East Asia.
Q: How did you find the work culture of your host organisation? How was it different to work experience in Australia?
The work culture was both serious and fun. There were times where it would be dead silent and all you can hear is typing and clicking away at the computer. However, there were also times where there was laughter, banter and chatter amongst the employees. It was very interesting to get a feel of both atmospheres in the same environment.
Q: Would you like to return to work in Indonesia again in future?
Yes, I’d love to return to work in Indonesia again in future. The constant hype, action and craziness of Jakarta is truly bizarre and impressive. It would be a fantastic way to embrace Indonesian culture once again.
