Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS program?

I can learn foreign culture and law, conduct practical legal work at same time.

Q: How have you found the academic components of this virtual program – i.e. the language classes/seminars?

The contents of classes are prefect. The only issue with me is the duration of the program. It is too intensive. I felt exhaustive.

Q: What organisation did you intern with?

Bagus Enrico & Partners

  1. Learned local legislation and regulations via weekly presentations prepared by Indonesian interns including Corporate Law, Foreign Investment Law, Capital Market, Dispute Resolution and Employment Law.
  2. Facilitated the firm’s recent international arbitration case by a legal memo regarding the concepts of Good Faith and Unjust Enrichment in common law.
  3. Drafted legal memos on the topics of Data Protection Laws (China vs Australia) and Foreign Workers in China.
  4. Present aforesaid memos to managing partners during the partner meetings.

Q: How have you found the work culture (albeit online) of your host organisation? How is it different to work experience in Australia?

The people at work are very friendly. I didn’t see any difference but my host law firm is very flexible with timetable, which I really appreciate it.

Internship really makes me think overseas law deeply and know the distinctions of laws among countries.

Q: Were you able to learn about the Indonesian culture from this virtual program? If yes, how was this achieved?

A lot since the first day. I learn how to call others politely, what are main foods and festivals for Indonesians and so on.

I am confident in writing this experience on my resume and sharing this experience with future law firm recruiting team.
