2020 Law Professional Practicum: Academic Program Officers

Dec 11, 2019

ACICIS is very excited to announce the appointment of two Academic Program Officers (APO) for the Law Professional Practicum (LPP), running in January-February 2020. We are pleased to welcome back  Dr Selvie Sinaga and Ms Patriani Paramita Mulia (Mita), who are both returning to the role once again.

Selvie is an Associate Professor of Law at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) – Faculty of Law. She obtained an LLB from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, an LLM from Monash University, Australia, and a PhD in Law from University of Wollongong, Australia. She has received prestigious scholarships from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) for pursuing her master and doctoral degrees in 2002 and 2008. She teaches international law, intellectual property law, English Law and Treaty Law. Her research interests are international and socio legal aspects of intellectual property law, law and development, and legal education in Indonesia. Apart from her academic career, she is also a practicing lawyer, specialized in intellectual property and public interest cases.

Mita is a practicing Indonesian advocate and an international human rights law consultant. Her legal expertise includes international human rights law, electoral disputes, constitutional challenges, cross-border disputes, general corporate and private transaction matters as well as corporate litigation. Prior to managing her own law office since 2016, Mita worked for two major Indonesian law firms and a Geneva-based human rights NGO. She is the alumnus of Atma Jaya Catholic University Jakarta (cum laude, bachelor degree, 2008) and New York University School of Law (master degree, 2012). She is currently finishing her doctorate study at Utrecht University.

Hosted by Atma Jaya University in Jakarta, the 2020 Law Professional Practicum (LPP) offers students the opportunity to undertake a two week academic program, including intensive Indonesian language classes and industry seminars, followed by a supervised practicum placement with a local or international legal firm, government authority or non-government organisation (NGO).

An Academic Program Officer is assigned to each of ACICIS’ professional practicum programs to oversee all aspects of a program, including the supervision of its academic content and assessment of student performance. In this case, due to the high number of students participating in the Law Professional Practicum, there will be two APOs overseeing the program in 2020. The APO’s and ACICIS Resident Director oversee application vetting, participant selection, and work placement allocation. During the program in Indonesia, the APO meets regularly with a student’s Host Organisation placement supervisor – and with the student themselves – to provide mentorship, to ensure that a student is getting the most out of their placement, and to assess a student’s performance. The APO provides students with advice on academic and industry-specific matters, and offers pastoral care and emergency assistance where necessary. The APO also plays a key role in curating and delivering the series of industry seminars that students undertake in the first two weeks of their program.

ACICIS is delighted to welcome Selvie and Mita as the supervisors for the 2020 LPP. Participating students will be extremely well served by their legal expertise in Indonesia.
